LAHORE -The president of Republic of Turkey, Abdullah Gul, currently on four-day state visit to Pakistan, is arriving in the City on Thursday (today). PM Yousuf Raza Gilani is likely to accompany the Turkish President to Lahore where he is scheduled to meet PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and representatives of business community. During his two-day stay in the provincial metropolis, Abdullah Gul would also visit Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and other places of historical importance in the City. A cultural show has also been arranged for the foreign guest at Lahore Fort on Thursday. Meanwhile, at least 8,000 police officers including 2,000 traffic officials including DSPs, SPs, inspectors and wardens have been deployed on all routes and main arteries of the provincial metropolis during Turkish President Abdullah Guls two-day visit to the City. The intelligence agencies personnel along with security agencies personnel have also been deployed on main routes of the City. DSPs, SPs and other senior police officials have been strictly ordered to remain high alert during the VVIP movement. Moreover all the senior officials have been ordered not to be engaged on mobile phones during the VVIP movement. Meanwhile, City Traffic Police newly designated Chief DIG Tariq Masud Yaseen in an official communiqu Wednesday said on the special directives of CM Punjab ample traffic force was deployed in entire important routes of the distinguished guest to fully ensure smooth and uninterrupted flow of vehicular traffic in City. He said traffic will remain suspended to relevant roads only just for few minutes which he added will be restored soon after the VVIP movement, meanwhile the traffic will be diverted to alternative routes. The DIG further said people could listen to City traffic radio FM 88.8 to seek further guidance. He said traffic is likely to remain suspended from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon and from 5.00pm to 9.00pm at Old Airport, Church Chowk, Afshan Chowk, The Mall, PMG Chowk, Data Darbar, Azadi Chowk, Badshahi Mosque Chowk to Sherpao Bridge, Jail Road, Shadman Chowk, Governor House, Avari Chowk, Shimla Pahari, Railway Station, Aik Moria Pul, Masti Gate, Qurtaba Chowk, Lytton Road, Jain Mander, MAO College, Civil Secretariat and Bhaati Chowk. The DIG also requested the citizens to use ring road and under-passes during the suspension of traffic on above mentioned roads and points.
