LAHORE Four seeded players qualified for the quarter-finals of the Honda Tennis Cup which is in full swing here at K21 Model Town Sports Club Model Town Lahore. Four matches of pre quarter stage were played in mens singles category on Wednesday. All the seeded players marched to the quarter-finals without facing any problem. Notably, Tanveer Ashiq was down in the first set by two games to five. However from this stage he managed to come back by breaking two serves of Omer Babar and won the first set by 7-5. The situation was same in second set and from here the come back story was repeated by Tanveer as he succeeded 7-5. Yasir Khan, the youngest amongst Aqeel brothers, was given tough time by Heera Ashiq in the first set which went till the tie break stage although Yasir managed to won the set by 7-6 (2) yasir won the match by a score line 7-6, (2), 6-4. Because of bad light, two unfinished matches of second round were played. In the first match Waqas Malik beat Samir Iftikhar 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Top quality tennis was seen in this match which was admired by the tennis community and professional coaches alike sitting there. It looked that there are some juniors who can keep high the flag of their country in future. Ladies singles pre quarter: Three matches were played at this stage Sara Mansoor Khunshah Babar 6-0, 6-0, Mehak Khokher beat Sohaila Masroor 6-1,6-4, Iman Qureshi beat Shehla Nazir 6-1,6-0 Boys singles under-18: Heera Ashiq beat Shah Naseeb 6-3,7-6, Saadan Ul Haq beat Hassan Riaz 6-2,2-6,6-2, Usman rafiq beat Ahmad babar 6-1,7-5,Malik Abdur Rehman beat Hassan Zoor 6-1,6-1, Samir Iftikhar beat Ahmed ch 6-1,6-1, Jibran Ul Haq beat M.Haseeb, Faizan Khuram beat Madhi Umair 6-3,6-1, Sajid Ali beat Ahmed Saeed 6-1,6-1. Mens Doubles and Veteran Doubles matches will be played tomorrow similarly matches for the U-14 category will also start tomorrow morning at 9 am.
