LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that service to the people is mission of PML-N and all resources are being utilised for the welfare of the masses. The chief minister expressed these views while talking to a delegation of PML-N America chapter led by Amjad Nawaz during a meeting who called on him on Wednesday. He said special initiatives were being taken for the provision of basic amenities, improving living standard of the people and rapid development of the province. He said billion of rupees were being spent on the improvement of education, health and other sectors of social development under a comprehensive programme. The CM said elimination of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and provision of justice to all was the manifesto of the PML-N government and all energies were being utilised for this purpose. He said promotion of education was prerequisite for the rapid development of the country; therefore, Punjab government was taking concrete steps for improvement of education sector, increasing literacy rate, spreading education and equipping the young generation with modern knowledge. He said foundation of revolution has been laid in education sector by setting up IT labs in more than four thousand schools at a cost of rupees five billion and its scope would be extended to middle schools in future. He said Danish schools were being set up for the students of backward and far-flung areas of the province, the standard of which would not be less than the prestigious institutions of the country. Shahbaz said not only facilities of quality education would be provided to the students in these schools but free boarding and lodging facilities would also be provided to them. He said scholarships were being provided to the poor talented students from Punjab Educational Endowment Fund for continuing their studies and now prestigious institutions like LUMS, FAST, and NUST have been included in this programme. He said a programme was being chalked out for provision of scholarships to five students for higher education in Ivy League Universities. The CM said the developed countries have made tremendous progress due to the promotion of technical education and our future was also linked with technical education, therefore, Punjab government has made promotion of technical education its priority. He said not only courses of technical education were being harmonised with modern demands for preparing skilled force according to the needs of the market but TEVTA has also been made vibrant and completely autonomous institution. He said cooperation of Germany, Sweden and other countries was being sought for the promotion of technical education. The CM said huge resources were being utilised for the provision of modern and quality health facilities to the people. The delegation paying rich tributes to the chief minister Punjab for the steps taken for the welfare of the people and development of the province said the efforts of the chief minister for the development and progress of the province were commendable. The delegation included Javed Siddiqui, Dr Muhammad Aslam, Haji Mansha Khokhar and Malik Akbar Ali.
