On the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Turkish President Abdullah Gul on two day visit to Lahore arrived here on Thursday. The Turkish President was accorded a warm welcome at the old airport when he alighted from his plane. Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Provincial ministers and high-ranking officials received the dignitary. He was accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and 200 member delegation comprised on businessmen, traders and Government official. The special plane carrying Turkish President and his delegation landed at the airport at 11:38 am. Two children presented bouquet to the Turkish President and a smartly turned out army band played tunes to welcome the dignitary to the historic city of Lahore. City roads were decorated with colorful flags and banners inscribed with slogans "Pak-Turk friendship Zindabad" along the route to the Iqbal's mausolem. A large number of people were present on both sides of the road and waved to welcome the Turkish President. People also raised slogans celebrating "Pak-Turk Friendship Zindabad". The Turkish President also visited the mausoleum of national Poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, where he laid floral wreath and offered Fateha. At least 8,000 police officers including 2,000 traffic officials including DSPs, SPs, inspectors and wardens have been deployed on all routes and main arteries of the provincial metropolis during Gul's visit.
