LAHORE (PR) - Livelihood Resource Center - a project of Leonard Cheshire Disability & Development Programmed Pakistan (LCDDP) - conducted a Policy Makers workshop for key stake holders the other day at Margalla Hotel Islamabad. The key objectives of this activity were to enhance understanding of employment related issues for persons with disabilities, focusing accessibility, negative attitudes, lack of opportunities in higher education and vocational trainings, and discriminatory employment policies in public and private sector. SSI, Many DPOs, lNGQs, NGOs, corporate firms and partners took part in the day long event. After the recitation of Holy O.uran, Country Programme Manger LCDDP Pakistan Imran Nazir briefed about the LRC (Livelihood Resource Centre) work in Pakistan. He highlighted the key components of LRC like training and capacity building, networking, and counseling, freedom of choice, capacity in order to enhance the employment opportunities for disabled persons. Later, Kamran Shahid, job placement officer, elaborated the role of employers in wage employment and stressed on the need to focus and promote abilities rather than Disabilities in PWD community. Talal Waheed (Training Coordinator) discussed the key challenges in employing persons with disabilities. Solutions were also offered to deal with the challenges.
