SIALKOT-Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the time has come to upgrade the national curriculums, promote knowledge-based education and building character of the students.

Addressing an annual prize distribution ceremony at Narowal, he also stressed a need for including advanced technology chapters in the national curricula. He highly hailed the role of the teachers, saying that the good and dutiful teachers had always been a precious asset of the whole society. He said teachers are the builders of the nation.

He said that there could never be an alternative of any teacher in the world. He said that the government was striving to curb the darkness of ignorance through spreading the light of the knowledge and education as per the vision of the government by promoting the public-private partnership in education sector.

He also urged the teachers and parents to focus on the character building of the students and stressed bringing change in the social attitude towards the promotion of quality education for all. He said, “The students are the future of the country and all of us should secure the nation’s educational future by ensuring easy access to quality education in the society.”

He said there was an immediate need to root out illiteracy at a grassroots level to bring about radical changes in every sphere of life. He called for changing the education system and removing disparities. He also distributed prizes and medals to the brilliant students for their outstanding academic performance.

DEATH SENTENCE: Additional District ad Session Judge(ADSJ) Aurangzeb has awarded death sentence for two counts with a fine of Rs.1 million to Aqeel Ahmed. He had killed Shamshad Bibi (52) and her nephew Mubashar Ali (33) over a land disputed in Sialkot about three years ago.

Meanwhile, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested seven notorious proclaimed offenders (POs in Gujranwala Division.

Accused Azra Bibi, Maratab Ali, Khalid, Sajid, Tahir and Ehsan Ashraf were wanted by the FIA in several cases of human trafficking by sending the people abroad illegally after extorting big amounts from them, Khalid Anees, divisional deputy director, said. The FIA has sent the accused behind the bars after registering separate cases against them in this regard.
