ISLAMABAD - The huddle of political and military leadership under the chair of Prime Minister is likely in a next couple of days, most likely today to review the overall security situation in the country in the light of the recent surge in the terrorists’ attacks.

Sources in the government informed The Nation that soon after his return from Davos Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with his close cabinet colleagues to discuss the security lapses resulting in the Bacha Khan University attacks in the country. The sources said that focus of the meeting would be to point out the loopholes and lapses in the security arrangements which resulted in reappearance of the terrorists attacks across the country and would redesign the strategy to check the loopholes in the security mechanism especially the grey areas in the coordination between the intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies needed to be covered.

The sources in the government said that the high-level meeting on security would also discuss the gains in Rangers’ operation in Karachi and its fate in the face of tussle between the provincial and federal government over its ambit of operations.

The arrest of Uzair Baloch, the most wanted fugitive allegedly involved in killings and other heinous crimes would definitely have major impact and role in the Karachi operation, a source in the government informed.

The sources further said that the military leadership would brief the participants on the achievements in ongoing Zerb-i-Azb operation and the process of rehabilitation of displaced people back to their homes in the areas cleared from the militants.
