A Frontier Corps (FC) personnel has been killed in a firing exchange between security forces and gunmen in Zhob, Balochistan. One militant blew himself following FC Forces’ counter attack.

According to eyewitnesses unidentified gunmen targeted an FC convoy, following which the firing exchange began. Security forces have surrounded and sealed the area. A search operation has been launched.

Balochistan is witnessing a new surge in militancy following the change of provincial government. The government reins have been handed over to PML-N leader Sanauallah Zehri who replaced Nationalist Party’s Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch as the new chief minister.

On January 13, a suicide attack targeted Polio Centre in Quetta, killing 16 people. Five FC personnel were killed in another attack on their convoy at Marget, Quetta on January 18.
