ISLAMABAD -  Test-discarded Umer Amin helped Rawalpindi thrash Lahore Region Whites by 8 wickets to win the National One-Day Cup Regions 2017-18 third round match played here at Pindi Stadium Wednesday.

Rawalpindi skipper Sohail Tanveer won the toss and opted to field first. His decision paid off, as Lahore Whites were cleaned up for 190 in 48.1 overs. M Mohsin was top scorer with 37 while Rizwan Ahmed and Umaid Asif contributed 24 runs each and M Irfan 22. Surprisingly, it were not regular bowlers from Rawalpindi, but a part-timer Umer Amin, who destroyed Whites batting with his right-arm medium pace bowling. He was almost unplayable and kept all the batsmen under check. He returned with figure of 3-31 while Yasir Ali captured 3-22 and Sohail Tanveer 2-46.

Chasing a modest total, Rawalpindi achieved the target in 35.2 overs. It was Umer Amin’s day, as after taking 3 wickets, Umer scored match-winning unbeaten 84 off 100 balls with the help of 14 boundaries while Iftikhar Ahmed slammed unbeaten 59. M Aftab took 1-14.

At Diamond Ground, despite much criticism and pathetic performance of Shakil Sheikh’s son Arsal Shakih, Islamabad had to taste third defeat of the tournament, as Lahore Blues hammered them by 7 wickets. Skipper Shan Masood hammered unbeaten 128 off 137 balls, studded with 11 fours and 1 six to help Islamabad post 254-5 on the board. Besides skipper, Shahid Yousaf made 44 and Faizan Riaz 43. Aizaz Cheema took 2-58. Lahore Blues replied strongly and achieved the target in 48.5 overs losing 3 wickets. Skipper M Saad batted brilliantly and gathered unbeaten 100 runs smashing 7 fours and 1 six while Waqas Saleem contributed 62.

At National Ground, Karachi Whites taught a cricketing lesson to Fata, as they crushed them by massive 10 wickets. Batting first, Fata were bundled out for 120 in 34 overs.

At Arbab Niaz Satdium, Peshawar, Faisalabad suffered their first defeat at the hands of Peshawar Region. Faisalabad were all out for 248. In reply , helped by Sahibzada Farhan, who scored match-winning 72, Peshawar Region achieved the target in 49.1 overs losing 6 wickets.

Adil Amin hit unbeaten 53 and skipper M Rizwan 49. Asad Raza captured 2-61.
