KARACHI - Opposition leader in City Council, Karachi, Karamullah Waqasi has alleged that policies of mayor has caused losses of billions to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation as it has failed to achieve set revenue target in last six months of current fiscal year.

In a statement, Karamullah Waqasi said that Mayor Karachi has adopted attitude of martial law dictator and declined to consider the suggestion of opposition in city council. “Opposition will launch a protest soon against the flop policies and pathetic attitude of mayor”, he added.

The opposition leader said that KMC had set target to recover 13 billion during initial six months of current fiscal year but due to lack of interest of Mayor departments of KMC hardly recovered only Rs5 billion during above period.

He informed about the details of collection of revenue by 64 departments of KMC stated that the land revenue department suffered losses of 90 percent in revenue collection during last six months of current fiscal year, Orangi Project suffered loss es of 79 percent, Kutchi Abadi 40 percent, State Department 51 percent, charged parking 54 percent, Enforcement Department 21 percent, Cultural and Sports Department 59 percent, 34 percent losses reported in Karachi, Korangi and Landhi Zoological Parks, Safari Park 67 percent, Utility Charges 79 percent, Horticultural Department 54 percent, Veterinary Department 93 percent, Medical and Health Department deficit in 75 percent, Enterprise Investment Promotion Department facing deficit 71 percent, Transport and Communication Department facing deficit 99 percent, Food Department 64 percent and other departments also facing deficit in set target of revenue collection.

He said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) witnessing deficit of Rs7 billion while no concrete measures has witnessed by Mayor Karachi to achieve set revenue collection target. Karamullah Waqasi alleged that Mayor Karachi frequently patronizing to the corrupt officials as “Under-Table Mafia” embezzled the revenue and national exchequer facing losses of billion of rupees.

He further said that Chairman of KMC have no powers to utilize the funds without prior permission of Mayor Karachi while contractors have not ready to spent 0.5million rupees on worth of 2.5 million schemes. He further said that KMC have not funds for salaries and pensions of its employees but Mayor Karachi frequently promote employees and officers. He said opposition parties have decided to launch a protest drive soon against the irregularities and corruption in KMC.
