LAHORE – Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) received more than 24000 complaints during the year 2012 across the province, said an ACE officer on Monday.

He said that out of 24000 complaints more than 13000 inquiries were decided and 2550 cases registered against which 2300 accused were arrested involved in corrupt practices in one way or the other. He said most of the complaints were received against officials of police, revenue, education and other departments of Punjab government. ACE received1835 cases registered and pending from the previous year.

ACE during the year 2012 also arrested 119 proclaimed offenders and more than 100 challans of different cases were submitted in the courts wherein court awarded punishment to accused in 39 cases. Lahore Region remained at top in receiving complaints and after that Headquarter ACE, Gujranwala Region, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Multan, D G Khan, Faisalabad and Sargodha. An officer said that annual performance report was under process of preparation and it would be finalised within next three to four months wherein detailed information could be given to media. It is worth mentioning here that Director General ACE has issued orders and warned his subordinates not to speak to the media men otherwise action would be taken against them. After removal of former Director General ACE , Justice (R) Kazim Ali Malik about a year the office of Director General remained vacant and no officer was posted against the vacant post. The reason behind the gap was search of a competent officer to run the ACE in an effective way but interestingly there was no visible positive change in the department after induction of present DG.
