MULTAN - Suspected dacoits shot dead a cop and injured two others when the policemen tried to stop them here in Writers Colony area on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Constable Muhammad Zahid, 34, a resident of Jamilabad, while the injured included Shahzad Khan and Shahzad.

Witnesses said that the assailants were on a motorbike and the cops standing at a picket signalled them to stop. "Instead of stopping, they opened fire on policemen and fled," witnesses added.  Police surrounded the area and search operation was underway till filing of the report.

Meanwhile, the funeral for the deceased constable was offered here at Police Lines. A large number of police officials including the CPO joined the funeral while a contingent paid salute to the martyr. He was laid to rest in a local cemetery. The CPO announced Rs3 million for the bereaved family besides job for his brother.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways (PR) has been continuously facing engine and fuel crisis due to which almost all passenger trains from various destinations are facing frequent delays.

Jaffar Express from Quetta to Rawalpindi arrived eight hours late at Multan Railway Station on Monday. Zakariya Express from Karachi to Multan was delayed by three hours and Hazara Express was reached eight hours late at Multan station.

Passengers have been facing difficulties at railway stations due to frequent delay of trains.
