LAHORE Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt is likely to be named vice captain of the Pakistan team for the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the tour of England, it was learnt on Monday. Butt will be assisting Shahid Afridi during the coming assignments. Butt was frontrunner for captaincy before Afridi announced his return to Test cricket and now reports suggested that he has got the support of the current captain. Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has also supported his appointment as vice captain. Butt had held the post for short period in 2007. The formal announcement of Salman Butt as vice-captain will be made by Chairman PCB on Friday when he will be in Karachi to finalise the squad for the Asia Cup and England tour. The PCB will arrange training camp for shorter period in Karachi from June 6 or 7. Pakistan are due to take part in the Asia Cup starting on June 15 in Sri Lanka where the host nation will be defending its title which they won at Pakistan in 2008 by beating India in the final.
