ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has intensified action against the profiteers and imposed fine amounting to Rs 150,900 on 215 profiteers and arrested 16 profiteers during the month of Ramazan involved in over charging and selling sub-standard food items. According to details, Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates ICT who have been assigned the task of curbing the profiteering tendency during Ramazan, conducted price checking in their respective jurisdictions in Islamabad Capital Territory and imposed so far fine amounting Rs 150900 on 215 profiteers and arrested 16 profiteers from city and rural area for selling unhygienic food items. The magistrates also collected 70 samples of different food items and sent them for laboratory test. The anti-profiteering drive would continue during the month of Ramazan. Magistrates during price checking imposed fines amounting Rs 11000 on 20 profiteers. Assistant Commissioner Sadar Fariduddin Mustafa conducted price checking in F-10 F-11 markets and imposed fine Rs 5100 on 9 profiteers not displaying rate list at their shops. Assistant Commissioner Industrial Area Asim Ayub imposed fines worth Rs 6000 on 11 profiteers in I-9 markets. Sasta bazaars and fair price shops set up by the ICT Administration in the city and rural areas of Islamabad, have been providing greater relief to the citizens and the people are appreciative and have expressed fully satisfaction over the arrangements for providing good quality food items at the lesser rates. The rush of the peoples buying food items at the sasta bazaar is manifestation of their confidence in the availability of food items at the cheaper rates in sasta bazaar. Meanwhile, prices of fruits and vegetables are also gradually witnessing downward trend with the passage of Ist Ashra of Ramadan-ul-Mumbarak. Supply of fruits and vegetables has been considerably improved from the provinces.
