MULTAN - Former governor Punjab, Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar, claimed on Monday that some elements hatched conspiracies to defame and kill him while the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would be their next target. He also opined that the sugar crisis was the rulers creation as a certain section wanted to destabilise Pakistan, adding the country was not ruled by Asif Zardari, Yousuf Raza Gillani and Shahbaz Sharif, rather a mafia governed it. Addressing a news conference at Multan Press Club, he said the recent character assassination campaign launched against him and other personalities was orchestrated by the same elements, who had changed the route of Benazir Bhutto on the day of her martyrdom. It is being done by Rehman Malik and Babar Awan under the patronage of Ali Baba, he alleged, adding that the Benazir Bhuttos route was changed on the advice of former IB chief Brig (r) Imtiaz. He strongly rejected the impression that Benazir Bhutto was martyred by Al-Qaeda, saying they would have acknowledged it, if they were the culprits. The Benazir murder case is buried under a chair. When the person sitting on this chair will move, the reality will show up, he claimed. He also declared President Asif Ali Zardari a danger for the country and the PPP. I suggest him to announce construction of Kalabagh Dam to revive his honour otherwise his days have been numbered, he added. He further claimed that slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto had told him in her last meeting with him that she would not take Asif Ali Zardari on board in her next government. She even said she will not let him stay in Pakistan and he will live abroad to look after his business, he added. Referring to the allegation levelled against him by Brig (r) Imtiaz, he strongly rejected all such accusations, saying the former IB chief had gone off his head and his medical examination should be carried out. He said he was handed sentence for not appearing before the court of a major but his sentence was suspended by the High Court. While on the other hand, Brig Imtiaz faced eight-year sentence due to the massive corruption committed by him, he maintained. Khar lashed out at the former president Pervez Musharraf and said he intentionally created power crisis in the country. Its a conspiracy to ruin entire industry of Pakistan to lead the country towards disintegration, he alleged. He strongly criticised Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on what he called his pro-India stance. Why our foreign minister is so anxious to hold talks with India? What kind of foreign policy is this that throws us in the feet of India? he posed questions. He suggested India should be given threats instead of begging for talks.
