LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said top three districts showing outstanding performance with regard to provision of quality essential items to the masses at the fixed rates in the Ramzan bazaars will be awarded prizes and a special committee has been constituted to evolve the method of selection of these districts. He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding Ramzan package and monitoring of the Ramzan bazaars at Chief Ministers Secretariat, here on Monday. Provincial Minister for Food Malik Nadeem Kamran, Additional Chief Secretary, IG Police, Secretary Home, Secretary Food, Director Food as well as senior officers were present. Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government had given the biggest subsidy in the history of the country on atta and due to collective efforts of local administration, elected representatives and monitoring teams, Sasta atta and sugar was easily available to the people in Ramzan bazaars. The credit goes to such elected representatives and administrative officers as are infused with a spirit of service to humanity and have made sincere efforts for the success of the Ramzan package, he said, while adding that at the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan, the top three districts showing outstanding performance regarding provision of essential items to the people at the fixed rates in Ramzan bazaars, establishing separate counters for disabled persons, senior citizens and women, setting up of tents for the convenience of the people and provision of other facilities in Ramzan bazaars will be awarded prizes. He said the government was spending billions of rupees under Ramzan package for the supply of daily use items to the poor and destitute people at concessionary rates, while besides provision of atta at the lowest rate first time in the history of the country, sugar was also being supplied for Rs 40/kg in Ramzan bazaars. Atta has been supplied in abundant quantity in the Ramzan bazaars and now the situation is that atta bags are available, but there are no buyers and thousands of atta bags are being returned daily from Ramzan bazaars, he said, while adding that besides making arrangements for shades at trucking points, instructions had been issued for the supply of maximum number of atta bags of 10 kg in Ramzan bazaars. He directed that maximum number of sugar bags be prepared and additional labour should be arranged for the packing of sugar so that it should also be available to the people easily. Shahbaz Sharif also directed authorities concerned to ensure sale of sugar at the rate of Rs 47 per kg in open market and stern action should be taken against the elements involved in overcharging. Earlier, the meeting was informed that provincial ministers and secretaries were visiting Ramzan bazaars throughout the province regularly due to which the situation at Ramzan bazaars had considerably improved.
