Consequently, Turkey is being viewed as a model of a modern, moderate and progressive Muslim state. The Turkish President expressed his profound thanks and deep appreciation to Nawaz Sharif for hosting a lunch in his honour. Recalling Nawazs personal contribution to strengthening Pak-Turkish friendship and cooperation, Gul said the government and people of Turkey considered him not only an extremely important political leader, but also a sincere friend and well-wisher of his country. Gul vowed that Turkey would continue to make its modest contribution towards Pakistans economy and the well being of its people. APP adds: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif have hailed the agreement among all political parties over the 18th Amendment draft and declared it a good omen for the future of democracy and democratic institutions in the country. Both leaders made these comments at a luncheon meeting hosted in honour of Turkish President Abdullah Gul at the Raiwind residence of Nawaz Sharif on Thursday. The prime minister said the unanimity of views over the agreed draft of public representatives and jubilations expressed by the common men demonstrated that the nation wanted change for a better future. The change is only possible, he said, when all institutions are strong and function within their constitutional domains. Gilani said it was the first time that the president, parliament, opposition, all political parties, media and civil society had unanimously agreed on a draft of constitutional amendment. This is a great victory of democratic forces and dividend of democracy, he remarked. Nawaz said it was a historic occasion as all political parties were united for the first time to amend the constitution for the betterment of the country, which would strengthen and promote democratic culture and values. Both the leaders congratulated the nation, the chairman and members of the special parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms and the leadership of all political parties for showing political will and vision to make parliament sovereign.
