LAHORE - Model Town Police is reluctant to arrest Dr Javed Akram, Chief Executive Jinnah Hospital, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College and other 50 unidentified accused doctors for inflicting tortures on journalists despite the registration of FIR at Police Station Garden Town on Tuesday. Another case was also registered at PS Faisal Town against dozens of Jinnah Hospitals doctors, who after two hours of the said incident, went out of the hospital and stripped three-story office of Saher Cable Network for not blocking their service. Reportedly, 10 cable staffers were injured in this second episode of violence. Police investigators said according to FIR Dr Javed Akram led the doctors violent group who reportedly thrashed the newsmen for covering a protest demonstration staged by a family over the death of their patient due to the negligence of the doctors. At least nine journalists of different media organisations had sustained severe injuries at the hands of doctors. The doctors broke two cameras and snatched two others in a bid to damage the footage of the protest. Police Station Garden Town in-charge Investigation Hassan Aziz was not available for his version despite the repeated requests by the scribe. Sources said fate of these FIRs would be like registration of cases against PPP Punjab leadership for setting on fire the effigies of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chuadhry.
