RAWALPINDI - The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) in a joint operation with Malaysian authorities seized a huge quantity of heroin and rounded up five smugglers, informed ANF spokesman here on Thursday.

"ANF in commitment to its international obligations furnished information to Malaysian Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), which resulted in seizing of 110 kg of heroin and arrest of five individuals," the spokesman added. 

According to him, the ANF received information that a multinational gang was busy in shipment of heroin from Pakistan to Malaysia and Lateran-shipment to China and Vietnam. 

"Taking action, a joint operation was initiated by ANF, Chinese Police and Royal Malaysian Police," he said, adding that initially Chinese authorities shared certain clues of drug gang in Pakistan, basing on which ANF traced a few evidences.

However, detailed investigation revealed presence of Narco-gang at Malaysia. Consequently ANF shared the information with Malaysian Police, who arrested 5 members of the gang and recovered 110 kg of heroin, he maintained.

In another joint operation, on information of ANF, South African authorities arrested a foreign national at land-border of South Africa and Zimbabwe, along with recovery of 2.2 kg of heroin concealed in his bag, the spokesman informed.

It is pertinent to mention that in order to capture drug crime beyond its jurisdiction, ANF has remained engaged in joint operations with multinational LEAs. Earlier such cooperation have resulted in many successful operations, significant of which in recent past are seizure of 80 kg of heroin and arrest of 11 persons in Malaysia, seizure of 127 kg heroin and arrest of 1 person at Benin (West Africa) and 10 kg of heroin, 1200 kg of Methamphetamine with arrest of 17 persons in
