RAWALPINDI - Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Campus Radio VoW 96.6 MHz organised Thursday National Songs Competition in connection with Independence Day.

The theme of the competition was patriotism. Chairperson Communication and Media Studies Dr Shamim Zaidi was the chief guest of the occasion while the judges of the event were Nadeem Fakhar, Incharge Software Engineering Department and Dr Huma Jahangir, Medical Officer. The competition was held as a part of the series of Independence Day celebrations here at the campus. The songs were full of zeal and passion as the students participated with great enthusiasm to pay homage to their beloved motherland.

A large number of students from various departments participated in the event. The competition was divided into two distinct categories of solo performance and group performance.

In solo performance first prize was awarded to Faiza Fayyaz of Economics Department, while second was given to Syeda Khadija Zainab of English and third was won by Asia Altaf of Communication and Media Studies.  All participants were awarded certificates by Dr Shamim Zaidi with a vote of thanks to the worthy guests.

She congratulated students and encouraged them to participate in such events because it provided them an opportunity to exhibit their talent.

Speaking on the occasion, Nadeem Fakhar said that this day reminds us to pledge for the development of the country and take steps for the development and prosperity of the country.
