PESHAWAR - A senior Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer was killed when unknown armed assailants opened firing on him on Circular Road near Sarkai Gate area on Thursday.

Police sources said Mazhar Hussain was on his way to home when unknown armed men opened fire on him. They said Mazhar was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Despite of repeated incidents of target killing, no one has been arrested and after committing crime, target killers easily escape from the scene. Earlier to this two former IB inspectors had been killed by unknown miscreants.

Meanwhile, as per the provincial government reforms policy, the KPK police Thursday inaugurated the police to victim service centre’. The centre has been established at the operation branch of the Central Police Office.

The Inspector General of Police formally inaugurated the new system by making phone call from the centre.

Under the new system, murder, dacoity and kidnapping effected people will contact the police at the centre on mobile No. 0333-8282369 and telephone No. 091-9210457. The police under this system after receiving the call will immediately rush to the victim at his doorstep.

The police after collecting the relevant information about the crime from the effectee will go back to police station and will expedite their efforts to work out the case. The police will then inform back the victim on his mobile/telephone number about the action of the police in the case.

Under the new system, the victim instead of going to the police station, police will come to the complainant at his doorstep and will keep him inform about the progress of his case. An ordinary person can largely benefit from the “police to victim” service due to its easy access. Later on, the detail of the police action in the case will also be displayed on the police website.
