KARACHI - Ongoing violence in sprawling Karachi city left six more people dead, while law-enforcement agencies netted at least 13 more suspects in targeted raids on Sunday.

In the first incident, a guard of a private security company was shot dead in PECHS Society area. Identified as Saleem Khan, 35, the victim had been doing duties of a security guard for PECHS Society for the past six months. A senior police official said Khan was mistakenly killed by his relative-cum-friend Asif Khalil. Khan was training Khalil how to use a pistol when it suddenly went off killing the former, added SHO Haider Zaidi. The accused Khalil had been taken in custody and investigation is in progress.

Separately, a teenager was found dead from Macchar Colony area. Police said the victim had yet to be identified. Initial investigations suggested the victim had been tortured to death after being kidnapped.

The body was shifted to a morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities at Civil Hospital Karachi.

Separately, an unidentified man was recovered dead near the Cantt Station. Police said no marks of physical torture or gunshot wounds were found on the body. The body was shifted to a morgue for identification.

In Khamiso Goth area, a police constable, Tasawar Hussain, was killed and another, Qurban Jilani, wounded in a targeted attack. Police said the policemen were patrolling when two gunmen on a motorbike attacked them.

Four unidentified gunmen mowed down two motorcyclists, Muttabir Hussain and Haider Ali, in an armed attack near the Quaid’s mausoleum. Police said the victims were on their way to their Soldier Bazaar residence when attacked. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. Police suspected it was a sectarian attack. Investigation into the dual murder case is in progress.

Meanwhile, at least 13 more suspects were taken in custody during ongoing targeted raids by law-enforcement agencies.

Eight hardened criminals were arrested by Rangers personnel in raids on Iqra City, Zeenat Square, Paracha graveyard, Muhammad Pur, Agra Taj Colony, Pak Colony and Lines Area. According to a spokesperson for Rangers, grenades and weapons were also seized.

Separately, District East investigation police claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in a raid on a den in Sharafi Goth locality. Two Kalashnikovs and drugs were recovered from them. The drug peddlers were identified as Suleman Baloch and Jafer Baloch. The main drug peddler, Tahir Baloch, managed to escape the scene, however.

An alleged criminal, Rafiullah, was arrested in an encounter near Do-Talwar. Police said the arrested accused along with his companion was busy in looting a passersby when the encounter took place. His associate fled however. A TT pistol was recovered from them.

Two more drug peddlers, Asif and Abdul Qadir, were arrested in a raid on their hideout in Gharibabad area of Liaquatabad. Police also claimed to have recovered weapons and narcotics from them.
