Rawalpindi - A notorious 48-year-old criminal was killed at the hands of his own accomplices who opened indiscriminate firing during a dacoity on Bher-Kalyal Link Road, within the limits of Police Station Jatli, informed police here on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Pervez, who belonged to Azad Jammu Kashmir and had been declared as a proclaimed offender in three cases of murder and dacoity registered with Police Station Bharnal, AJK, police added. According to Sub-Inspector Nazir Ahmed, who is investigating the case, three dacoits set a looting stage on Bher-Kalyal Link Road where they stopped a jeep and pulled Riaz Mehmood and his friend Tahir Azam out of the vehicle and pointed guns at their heads. Later, the dacoits started looting the two men. When one of the dacoits tried to snatch key of the vehicle from Riaz, he showed resistance on which the robbers started firing with 30-bore pistols. “A bullet hit into head of a dacoit who died on the spot while the other two accomplices ran away,” the SI said. The dead dacoit was later identified as Pervez.

CPO Humayun Bashir Tarar, while talking to The Nation, confirmed the incident and said that the dacoit was shot dead by one of his accomplices.

He added that the dead dacoit was a notorious criminal.  The CPO categorically denied that police had killed the robber during an encounter.

when this scribe asked there were some reports that police had killed the robber in an encounter. “Why should we hide it? Police did not kill him,” the CPO added.
