PESHAWAR - Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Mehtab Khan, has said that a separate authority, FIWA (FATA Infrastructure and Work Authority) should be formed to improve infrastructure facilities in FATA especially transportation, power generation and public services.

He said this during a presentation on concept clearance paper on establishment of FATA FIWA here at the Governor’s House Wednesday.  ACS FATA Muhammad Azam Khan accompanied by ex-Secretary Habib Ali, Secretary (P&D) Muhammad Tariq, and Chief Engineer (FATA) Arif Khan briefed the Governor on the concept paper. The Governor said that FATA region needs to be developed and FIWA should be established towards achieving this goal.

He also stressed certain priority steps for ensuring sustainability and maintenance of the infrastructure in FATA. In this connection, the Governor further elaborated that FIWA needs to be designed with adequate administrative, financial and functional autonomy to deliver the services of desired standards.

He also emphasized to introduce IT-based systems for project planning and implementation and contract management systems to ensure protection of public interest. It was also decided to convene another meeting on January 7 to give further input in this regard.
