KARACHI – The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested seven alleged assassins in separate raids on different city neighbourhoods on Sunday.

According to SSP Fayyaz Khan, the CID had been tipped off about the presence of the criminals in Chamra Chowrangi, Risala and Jackson localities. He said that the detainees, who had links with two different political groups, confessed to having killed over half a dozen people, including five MQM workers.

Besides targeted killing, they were also found involved in car-lifting, extortion and other crimes.

The suspects were identified as Hassan Ali, son of Muhammad Abad, Fahim Akbar, son of Muhammad Akbar, Muhammad Saleem, son of Abdullah, Abdul Rauf alias Lamba, son of Haji Adam Ali, Muhammad Danish, son of Haroon, Azadi Khan, son of Iqbal Khan and Syed Salik Siraj, son of Sirajuddin.

One kalashnikov, six pistols, 32 different caliber of bullets, 500-kg hashish and two snatched cars were seized from them. Further investigation is underway.
