BAHAWALNAGAR - The District Bar Association (DBA) observed a complete strike in protest against the attempt on the life of the member Punjab Bar Council in Sargodha.

According to detail, the son of SP Patrolling Police Sargodha along with his accomplices attacked member Punjab Bar council Mohammad Mazhar in Sargodha. He, however, survived the attack. To express solidarity with the senior lawyer, the District Bar Association observed complete strike and demanded early arrest of the accused.

On the occasion, DBA President Ch Noor Hassan and Secretary General Rana Khurram demanded that effective security measures should be taken for the protection of life and property of the lawyers.

One gets death, two to life in prison:  The Additional District and Sessions judge sentenced an accused to death while co-accused to life in prison in murder case.

Zafar Iqbal, Akhtar Iqbal and Arshad were also fined of Rs100,000 each. The accused were arrested in the murder case of local soap factory owner Ch Nawaz who was brutally killed by them over a property dispute on June 12, 2010. AD&SJ Mohammad Abbas pronounced the verdict upon completion of trial.

Man shot dead on resistance: A man shot dead by bandits on putting up resistance in dacoity a bid here in the limits of Takht Mahal Police on Sunday. According to details, five to six bandits shot dead a tractor driver identified as Habib, son of Qutab Din, a resident of Fortabbas at Bhokan Hittar near Sutlej River Bridge in the wee of Sunday.

Reportedly, he was driving tractor-trolley to the river when the outlaws intercepted him. Meanwhile, he attempted to overpower them but the bandits fired gunshots on him, killing him instantly. The police registered a case.
