LAHORE – Despite tall claims by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, power shortfall of around 5,000MW persisted for the second consecutive day on Sunday, resulting in 12 and 18 hours of loadshedding in urban and rural areas, respectively.

The critics regretted that personal interest of the prime minister and government claims proved futile because the power shortfall remained in the vicinity of 5,000MW. Power generation was recorded at 12,000MW against the demand of 17,000MW.

Power generation through hydel, thermal and independent power producers (IPPs) remained 4500MW, 1500MW and 6000MW, respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) remained 700MW.
