RAWALPINDI - Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), as per instructions of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is talking concrete steps to promote and develop tourism in the country and it is hoped that after completion of these steps, the corporation would be able to boost tourism in the country that had earlier affected by terrorism.

“Terrorism affected tourism bady in the country but now the government is striving hard to promote tourism. Pakistan is a peaceful country and the national and international tourists should visit hill resorts without any fear,” said PTDC Managing Director (MD) Chaudhry Kabir Khan while inaugurating bus service between Rawalpindi and Naran at Flashman Hotel on Saturday.

He was flanked by General Manager (GM) Flashman Hotel Iftikhar Satti, GM Pakistan Tours Ali Akbar Malik, GM Motels Sheikh Fiyyaz Ahmed, and Acting Manager Publicity and Promotion Rao Mukhtar Ali. On the occasion, MD also departed some 25 tourists to Naran in the new bus service.

Earlier, the MD said that there was a time when PTDC enjoying good repute in Northern Areas but spat of terrorism and mismanagement dented the image of PTDC and tourism. He said that PTDC was being reactivated and the government was committed to root out the menace of terrorism from the country.

He said that with a view to promote domestic tourism in the country, PTDC has started daily bus service between Rawalpindi and Naran. He said that PTDC was not only offering special discounted tour packages to Pakistan families, students and tourist groups but also foreign tourists. He added that to facilitate tourists, a special counter has also been established by Pakistan Tours Ltd.

The MD said that the road to Naran was open and people of Kaghan were ready to welcome tourists. The tourist flow in the area would help not only in increasing revenue but also in rehabilitating earthquake and flood-affected areas.

Responding to queries of media men, Kabir said that PM took personal notice of non-payment of salaries to the employees of PTDC and the issue would be solved after budget. The KPK government has been assigned the task to reconstruct the PTDC hotel in Malam Jabba that was bombed by air jets during war between Pakistan army and Taliban in Swat.
