LAHORE - The Excise and Taxation Department Punjab has ordered for arrest warrants and properties forfeiture against, as many as, 12 property tax defaulters. "Caltex Oil Company at Abbot Road and former Pakistan Muslim League-Q MPA from Chunian Shiekh Allaudin have also been enlisted as property tax defaulters," The Nation learnt here on Thursday. The sources informed that the Excise and Taxation Department had issued final notice to them warning that if the property tax evaders failed to deposit their outstanding dues before June, law would take its course in accordance with property tax Act 958. The sources revealed that amount overdue against former MPA from Chunian Shiekh Allaudin stood at Rs 1,30,000 arrears against the Caltex Oil Company stood at Rs 2,70,000. Other defaulters included Asad Aftab (Rs 3,00,000), Saleem Ahmed (Rs 2,54,000), Rehana Bibi (Rs 2,30,000), Abdul Raheem (Rs 5,18,000), Muhammad Saeed (Rs 2,38,000), Iqbal Begum (Rs 1,23,000), Aziza Begum (Rs 1,14,000), Kanwar Shah Rukh (Rs 1,70,000), Mehmooda Nasreen Begum (Rs 74,000) and outstanding dues against Muhammad Ikram stood at Rs 80,000. Director Region (A) Akram Ashraf Gondal said that a number of legal notices had already been served to them. He said that the department issued the order regarding arrest warrants and property forfeiture against the property tax defaulters after noticing the fact that they were unmoved over the issue. He said that all officers had been warned strictly that no defaulter would be released unless lump sum arrears were recovered otherwise concerned officials would be placed under suspension besides taking strict disciplinary action against him under efficiency and discipline rules. The sources said that the raiding teams each headed by the Assistant Excise and Taxation Officers had been constituted to arrest the defaulters for recovery of arrears without succumbing to any pressure. They said that Excise Inspectors and other subordinate staff of concerned districts had also been included in the raiding teams to help identify the defaulters and trace out their hideouts. "Special cells have been constructed in all districts including at Farid Kot House, Lahore to put the defaulters behind the bar, " he noted.
