LAHORE The ruthless dengue virus targeted females as three women breathed their last at different hospitals in the City on Tuesday, taking the death toll till Tuesday to 330. Besides putting to sword three women in a day, the deadly virus forced hundreds of Lahorites to approach public sector hospitals and private healthcare centres for preliminary tests, confirming 173 new cases on Tuesday and as such taking the overall tally to 31, 720. Neelam, 22, and Sharifan Bibi, 55, of Mandi Faizabad lost their battle of life to the dengue virus at Mayo Hospital while Naseem Bibi, 60, of Township died at Ittefaq Hospital. Out of 173 new cases, 24 were tested positive at Services Hospital, 21 at Mayo Hospital, 14 at Jinnah Hospital, 13 at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, eight at Institute of Child Health and seven each at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore General Hospital and Institute of Public Health while 72 new cases were reported from other public sector hospitals and private healthcare centres in the City. According to the Punjab Health Department, three dengue patients lost their lives in Punjab. As such total deaths in Punjab have reached 301 including 263 in Lahore.
