Islamabad-The Australian Police yesterday fulfilled its promise and handed over latest equipment to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for elimination of corruption in Pakistan.

A delegation of Australian Federal Police led by Philip Hunter, Senior Officer of Australian Federal Police, handed over the equipments to NAB chairman in a ceremony. NAB has established its own Forensic Science LAB with the cooperation of Austrian Federal Police last year. Earlier, NAB sent its cases to Punjab or Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Forensic labs and paid heavy amount to them in this regard.

Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhary said with the help of properly functioning forensic science lab, Investigation Officers (IOs) probing different high profile corruption cases are now able to conduct Complaint Verifications, Inquiries and Investigations transparently and on merit. 

He said that under our proactive approach, NAB has been engaging different governmental and non-governmental organisations and civil society in its fight against corruption. 

He said that NAB’s Forensic Science LAB has the facilities of Digital Forensics, Fingerprint Forensics and Questioned Documents. Establishment of Forensic Science LAB will help retrieving of documents from electronic devices like Cell Phones, Computers, iPads and networks.

Chaudhary said that NAB‘s own Forensic Science LAB is one such tool that is gaining importance in detecting and investigating white collar crimes. “We appreciated help of Australian Federal Police (AFP) in establishment of Forensic Science Lab which is now a notified Forensic Lab by the federal government in the fields of digital Forensics, Questioned Documents and Finger Prints,” he added. NAB’s Forensic Science Lab is giving services comparatively in lesser time. Provision of the latest equipment to NAB by Australian Federal Police (AFP), the capacity of NAB’s Forensic Science Lab, will be further enhanced to meet the requirements/challenges in future.

Philip Hunter, Senior Police Officer of Australian Federal Police (AFP), appreciated the efforts and performance of NAB under the leadership of Chairman NAB and said NAB’s Forensic Science Lab in a short span of time has developed into an advanced and state-of-the-art Forensic LAB.

He added that Australian Federal Police (AFP) will continue to support NAB in the fields of forensic equipment as well as capacity building of NAB Forensic experts to further enhance their capabilities in future.  

Chairman NAB in the end thanked the delegation of AFP for provision of latest’s equipment for NAB’s Forensic Science Lab and continued support in this regard.
