peshawar-M Hamza stunned No 1 M Ammad in a marathon five-set battle in the 30th Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Junior Boys Squash Championship final played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Tuesday.

Air Marshal Asad Abdur Rehman Khan Lodhi, Acting Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was the chief guest while Air Vice Marshal M Athar Shams, ex-world champion Qamar Zaman, Base Commander Air Commodore Irfan Zaka, PAF Sports Control Committee president Air Commodore Mohsin Ali Hussaini, PAF SCC director Group Captain Asghar Awan, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) chief referee Munawar Zaman and a large number of players were also present there.

Hamza, also from PAF Squash Academy, gave a tough resistance to his strong rival Ammad. Hamza lost the first set but bounced back in the second set, winning it 11-9. He then lost the third set 3-11 but then Hamza staged a strong comeback and won two consecutive sets by 12-10 and 11-4 to win the final.

In the U-13 category, Asad Ullah of PAF beat Noor Zaman of PAF in straight sets, the score was 11-9, 11-6, 11-5. In the U-15 category final, Uzair Shoukat of PAF beat Rashid Doulat of PAF in another five sets battle 3-2 with the scores of 5-11, 11-9, 3-11, 12-10, 11-4. In the U-17 final, Saif Ullah of PAF upset Own Abbas of Punjab 3-2, as the score was 9-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9.

In the U-19 final, Mehran beat Mansoor 3-2 with the scores of 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6. Both the players presented a good display and attacked each other with some good display of shorts and some beautiful cross-courts smashes. But in the end, it was Mehran who dominated and won the marathon final.

At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up. A total of 240 players took part in five different categories.
