LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced release of all the persons arrested during recent protests in the province, as the PTI  has withdrawn its call for Islamabad lockdown.

In a statement yesterday, the chief minister said that instructions have been issued to concerned administration authorities for implementation of the decision.

“The people of Pakistan have achieved a victory,” Shehbaz Sharif said, adding there had been no justification of protest after the case regarding Panama Leaks was subjudice in the Supreme Court.

“It’s a great win of justice and rule of law,” the CM tweeted after the Supreme Court stopped the PTI from going ahead with Islamabad lockdown and announced it would deal with the issue of Terms of Reference (ToRs) for Panama leaks probe if the government and the Opposition ToRs remained unacceptable to each other.

“It’s not just an achievement because nefarious designs of the opposition just got foiled but also strengthened a fact that institutions are supreme authorities upon which 20 crore citizens of Pakistan actually rely.”

Shehbaz stated that the nation wanted progress and prosperity of country and resolution of their problems. He held in democracy, decisions are not taken on roads but the parliament and constitutional institutions.

“The PML-N leadership is fully capable to bring the country out of problems. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, national economy has been set on strong foundations. Economic development is indispensable for achieving a respectable place in the comity of nations,” the CM said while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Shehbaz said the government would achieve the goal of progress and prosperity of the people. “Today, Pakistan is making rapid progress and is being included in emerging economies of the world.”

“The CPEC will leave a positive impact on not only the development of Pakistan but the entire region, unemployment will be eliminated, energy crisis will be overcome and the country will move ahead speedily,”he further said.

Shehbaz was of the view that people of Pakistan are conscious and better know who is serving them. He said the current situation demands that we should work jointly for the progress of the country.

About Panama leaks, the chief minister said that PM Nawaz has already expressed confidence over the hearing of the case in Supreme Court.

The prime minister had also taken a bold decision of not taking support of any technical and legal aspect of the case, he added. But, despite this, the attitude of some political elements insisting on portest sit-in was inconceivable, he commented. “The PML-N has always respected the decisions of the judiciary.”

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated newly elected President Rashid A Rizwi and other office bearers on their success in elections of Supreme Court Bar Association.

In a felicitation message, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that newly elected leadership will come up to the expectations of lawyers’ community and utilise all its energies for resolving problems of the lawyers.
