KARACHI - Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said on Wednesday that municipal utility charges & tax were an important source of revenue for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and therefore all efforts would be made to make the concerned department operational so that the survey work, data upgradation, bill printing and distribution system could be made effective.

He was presiding over a meeting on MUCT held here at his office, which was attended by the MUCT Committee Chairman Rahat Hussain Siddiqui, Finance Committee Chairman Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, Adviser to Mayor Farhat Khan, senior director finance Rehan Khan, senior director MUCT Raza  Abbas Rizvi, director technical SM Shukaib and other officers.

The mayor said in order to bring improvement in the financial condition and ensure speedy and effective delivery of municipal services to the citizens, it was essential to make the revenue recovery system effective.

He said KMC provided basic municipal services to the citizens like a healthy and clean atmosphere by planting trees and taking other measures, setting up fire brigade department and rescue facilities, building parks and hospitals to cater to the health requirements of people. “And in order to continue these services, it needs resources,” he argued, and added, “All departmental heads who deal with the recovery of revenue should therefore bring improvement in their work so that we could provide even better services to the citizens.”

Meanwhile, Human Resources Management Department of KMC with the approval of a competent authority, on Wednesday issued orders for posting Mohammad Ismail (BS-18) as Director (Service) HRM vide Musarrat Ali Khan whereas another officer Abdul Karim Mughal of HRM department was posted as Deputy Director (Recruitment) HRM, KMC.
