LAHORE - More than 800 traffic officers, including 118 patrolling officers, will be deployed on different roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic for participants of the annual Raiwind congregation.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the religious congregation that would begin near Raiwind on Thursday. Special parking lots are set up close to the gathering site to facilitate the participants while police will ensure video recordings at the entry points. The participants will be given three-layer security with massive deployment of police force.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed on Wednesday told reporters that a comprehensive traffic management plan would be implemented to guide motorists at the arrival during the 1st phase of the annual Raiwind congregation 2017 in order to avoid traffic jam.

 “At least 8 DSPs, 34 Inspectors, 118 Patrolling Officers and 698 Traffic Wardens along with Fork Lifters and Breakdowns are deployed under the supervision of SP City Division Asif Siddique and SP Sadar Division Sardar Asif Khan to remove wrong parking,” the CTO said.

Moreover, Camp Office, Control Room and Monitoring Room are also established. “After proper the vehicles will be allowed to move towards parking areas,” the officer said. According to city traffic police, the vehicles coming from Gujranwala GT Road will be diverted to Thokar Niaz Baig through Kala Shah Kako Interchange on the Motorway. The vehicles, which will arrive at Shahdara from GT Road Gujranwala, will be sent through Kazalbash Chowk towards Raiwind Ijtimah via Khayaban Chowk. Participants coming from Faisalabad via Sheikhupura will be sent to Thokar Niaz Baig via Pir Babar Shah Chowk Sheikhupura.

Similarly, the participants who will arrive at Shera Kot will move through motorway and they will not be allowed to go towards Chowk Yateem Khana. The vehicles will be diverted from Kazalbash Chowk towards Pajian Chowk and from Pajian Chowk towards Rohi Nala. Vehicles coming from Okara will be sent towards Raiwind Ijtimah from Rohi Nala with cooperation of motorway police.

The traffic will be diverted for a short time from Multan Road towards Sundar Adda instead of Manga Rohi Nala and the vehicles will be sent to Ijtima from Sundar Road. The motorists at their arrival at Mohlanwal Multan Road will be sent to Raiwind Ijtimah from Bhobatian Chowk via Defence Road. Those vehicles will be parked at parking (No. 10) and parking No. 01. Vehicles coming from Kot Radha Kishan will be sent to Parking (No 06) and Parking (No. 07) through Manga Rohi Nala via Bhachoki Phatak. Vehicles coming from Kasur will be sent to Parking (No. 09) through Lalyani Suay Asil road Jodho Phatak via Burhan Chowk. Vehicles coming from Bhatti Chowk will be sent to Parking (No 09) through Burhan Chowk via Bara Oil Mills Chowk. Khwas road and Sundar road will be kept clear for emergency vehicles and fire brigade Vehicles.
