LAHORE-A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif at CMs Secretariat here on Thursday to review measures in details for the prevention and control of blindness. Provincial Minister for Special Education Malik Iqbal Channar, Members Provincial Assembly Shahzadi Umarzadi Tiwana, Zaib Jaffar, President LRBT, Justice (r) Amir Raza Khan, Vice Chairman Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Dr Amjad Saqib, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Social Welfare and Special Education as well as prominent ophthalmologists were present. Chairperson Pak Foundation Fighting Blindness on Special Education Saima Ammar apprised the meeting of the diseases causing blindness and the performance of her institution. The CM said checking of diseases causing blindness was the need of the hour. He also issued instructions for setting up a special committee to be headed by Provincial Minister for Special Education for controlling blindness. The committee will conduct a survey of the whole population of the province especially educational institutions and submit its report. He also directed to induct experts on the committee. Shahbaz paid rich tributes to Saima Ammar on her courage and commitment who despite being a blind had achieved a prominent status in the society. He said she was a ray of hope for others. He also announced financial assistance of Rs2 million for Pak Foundation Fighting Blindness, which will be given to the institution over a period of three year. He said service to humanity is a form of worship and all out assistance will be extended to the institutions engaged in social service. Provincial Minister for Special Education Malik Iqbal Channar informed about the performance of special education institutions in the province.
