KARACHI – Trade bodies, transporters’ associations and citizens condemned the whopping rise in petroleum products and CNG and demanded immediate withdrawal of decision.

Traders and transporters of Karachi have rejected massive hike in the prices of petroleum products and have threatened severe protest if petrol price hike will not withdrawn within three days.

Chairman of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Atiq Mir while talking to The Nation told that people of Pakistan already suffer due to prices hike in basic essential item.

The said decision ahead of the petroleum price hike also multiply the burdens on the shoulders of common men of the country.

He said the government had increased prices of petroleum twice in 10 days which resulted in 20 per cent increase in basic items.

Mir further said that government was increasing the prices to fulfill their expenses without bothering about the people of Pakistan suffering because of the prices and also not considering the problems facing by the country’s meagre economy.

He further said 80 per cent population of the country could not suppose fulfill their desires except basic necessaries, only 20 per cent people can afford the luxurious life and buying power of common men have gradually declining.

Karachi Transport Ittehad Chairman Irshad Bukhari also condemned the price hike in petroleum products by the government and demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.

He said the government had failed to facilitate the people of country and also making the life of common men miserable. He also called a meeting of different transport unions on Tuesday in this regard.

Karachi Goods Transporters Association has also took notice of sudden petroleum hike and warned government to get the decision revert otherwise the transport associations will go on strike.

Residents of Karachi were also shocked over the decision while talking to The Nation a citizen namely Saud Khan said that the government coalition partners and other concerned forces were remain silent over the economic killing of people.

He said that all political parities were together and busy minting money for their personal interests. Another citizen Ayaz Shah told that petrol pumps across the city had suspended their activities and closed the pump station in order to get more profit after the notification.

It is pertinent to mention here majority of the fuel pumps were closed as the news ahead of the price hike spreads. Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh took notice of the pumps closure due to the lucrative benefits but unable to take timely action against the responsible.
