PESHAWAR – An Eid Millan inter-religions gathering was organised by Pakistan Council of World Religions at the University of Peshawar.

Provincial Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs Haji Namroz Khan was the chief guest on the occasion while KP Minister for Livestock Hidayatullah Khan and representative members of Sikh, Christian, Hindu and Muslims communities were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Minister for Religious Affairs said that every Pakistani, no matter from which religion they belong, wants to live a peaceful life in the homeland.

He mentioned that all the religions preach peace as one of their integral element and it is mandatory on their followers to abide by it. Namroz Khan said that his government has been fighting the menace of terrorism for the last few years.

By the grace of almighty Allah we have succeeded in suppressing the militants and bringing peace back in areas like Swat etc, he added.

The image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented to the whole world is totally opposite to the ground realities over here, stated Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz.

He said that KP is one of the only region in South Asia with no inter-religious unrest. This is testimony to the fact that our people are accommodative and respect each other’s religions. Today in our province you would see the schools and colleges of Christian community and its teachers are respected the most for their role in imparting quality education, he added.

The Vice Chancellor said that University of Peshawar is probably the only University in the world to have allocated special seats for non muslims brothers. Today more than seventy students from non-Muslim community are enrolled at University of Peshawar. We have taken their case of financial assistance with the provincial government and soon they will get scholarships as well, he stated.

The ceremony was attended by Qari Roohullah Madani, MPA Prince Javed, Deans of University faculties, officers and staff of University of Peshawar.
