ISLAMABAD  - Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh called on Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf at Prime Minister’s House Saturday afternoon and briefed him about the overall economic situation of the country.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Finance Minister for releasing requisite funds for the Kaachi Canal Project and expressed the confidence that it would be completed by the end of this year.

The Prime Minister directed the Finance Minister to ensure that no cuts are made in funds meant for the development projects in Balochistan and that these are released on time.

Staff Reporter adds: A spokesman of the PM’s House has said that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has taken serious notice of a news item carried by a section of press wherein it had been reported that the Transparency International Pakistan had pointed out irregularities in the awarding of a Rs 910 million contract of Golen Gol Hydropower Project by the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

The prime minister, the spokesman said, had directed the Wapda authorities to submit a detailed report within 10 days.

The findings of the report as well as any further action on it would be conveyed to the Transparency International Pakistan, the spokesman assured.
