LAHORE – An employee of the Model Town Housing Society (MTHS) on Saturday climbed up an electric pole in front of PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif’s residence to protest against the unjustified treatment meted out to him.

The man, identified as Muhammad Hasnat, worked as a driver for the MTHS administration. He remained absent from duty for many days, on which the administration demoted him as a security guard.

“After coming to know about this, I decided to protest and climbed up the electric pole,” the self-claimed victim told reporters shortly after the Rescue 1122 Aerial Platform rescued him from the over 100-feet tall electric pole.

Earlier, the family and relatives of Hasnat assembled at the site and tried their best to convince him to come down, but to no avail. Later, MTHS office-bearers reached the spot and assured him that his demand would be met. On this, Hasnat agreed to climb down the electric pole.

A heavy police contingent and traffic wardens also reached the spot to control the law and order situation, since a good number of people had gathered at the site. Police officials believed that the self-claimed victim could be booked if the MTHS administration submitted an application against him over his method of protest that created problems for motorists and passers-by, as well as suspended traffic on both sides of the main road.
