KARACHI - Two police constables of the Maripur police station were wounded when they were on their way to Mawach Goth to conduct a raid for the arrest of the Lyari gangsters on Saturday.

Police officials said that the raid was being conducted on the information of the already arrested six culprits, namely Sajid, Khalid, Ansar, Kareem, Waqar and Bablay, belonging to the Baba Ladla group of Lyari. Police officials said that these arrests were made during a targeted raid in Mawach Goth in the wee hours of Saturday and four hand grenades, three kalashnikovs, two 7mm rifles, three pistols and narcotics were also recovered from their possession.

The injured policemen, namely Ghaffar Shah and Ashfaq were taken to the Civil Hospital, Karachi for medical treatment. According to SHO Shafiq Tanoli who was also presented at the police mobile when the culprits attacked it, the accomplices of the arrested culprits attacked the police, adding that more raids would be conducted. It should be noted here that the relatives of the already arrested Lyari gangsters also staged a protest on Hub River Road against the arrest apprehensions of their loved ones and demanded their immediate release. Protestors also blocked the road for vehicular traffic by setting the tyres on road and pelted the passing vehicles with stones. Police also used teargas shells and restored to indiscriminate aerial firing to disperse the protestors. They also detained about half dozen armed suspects from the protestors. Meanwhile, four people were killed in different incidents of violence here on Saturday.

An under-training cop was shot dead near Qasba More within the remit of Pirabad police station. Police said that deceased Muhammad Shafiq, a resident of Qasba Colony was on his way to home on a motorbike was shot dead by unknown gunmen. His body was handed over to the family after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Unknown gunmen targeted two friends riding a motorbike at Bansroad within the remit of Aram bagh police station. Police said Fawad Baloch and Muhammad Safir were on a motorbike when unknown gunmen also riding a motorbike chased them and sprayed bullets. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi where Baloch succumbed to his injures.

Another similar incident took place in Khossa Goth located within the remits of Airpoirt police station. Police said Jalil was on motorbike when unknown gunmen shot him dead and managed to flee. Police being informed shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead. Police said the deceased was employees of Civil Aviation Authority and on his way to home after his job when incident took place.

Meanwhile, a resident of Machar Colony was shot dead here in the remit of Docks police station. Police said that deceased Qasim Gafoor was on his way to Fisheries for work when gunmen riding on a motorbike shot him multiple times and managed to flee. Body of the deceased was handed over to the family after autopsy while police suspect personal enmity was the motive behind the murder.
