LAHORE - Iran's Malavan Bandar Anzali women team based in Bandar-e Anzali, one of the most important seaports in the Iranian province Gilan, opened their mission in fifth National Women Football Championship at Islamabad's Jinnah Stadium Saturday night with 8-0 win over Balochistan United at Jinnah Stadium. Midfielder Fereshteh Karimi was the star former for visitors from Iran with first hat-trick of the event. She cut in from left flank to break the deadlock in the 6th minute and sharp-shooter Maryam Irandost doubled the lead in the 21st minute. Under captaincy of Sarah Ghomi, Iranians led 3-0 at interval with Fereshteh scoring her second in the 31st minute. She landed her third two minutes from time to register well-deserved hat-trick. Iran's other goal-getters were Fetemeh (42nd min), Sarah Ghomi (49th min, Afsaneh Eghbal (58th min) and Hsajar Shahmalekpour(62nd min). There will be no match on Monday. Event will resume on Tuesday, August 4 with the following matches : NWFP v Iranian team, Sindh v Islamabad and HEC v Sports Sciences Earlier in two matches of Group-A, Lahore's Sports Sciences Department of Punjab University and Higher Education Commission won their matches to join WAPDA in last eight. Sports Sciences thrashed Sindh 5-0 at Jinnah Stadium. Striker Naima Mukhtar maintained her record of scoring in every match with two goals in the 34th and 66th minute after winger Aisha broke the deadlock in the 9th minute. Midfielder and skipper Ishrat Fatima stepped in with 56th minute goal. Lahore's Saman Islam was also among scorers who belong to family of sport. Daughter of National Referee Chaudhry Muhammad Islam, Saman is sister of Muhammad Ahmed, who represented Pakistan in 29th Olympic Games Qualifiers, and Muhammad Salman, who played for Pakistan in AFC U13 Festival of Football 2007. She accelerated onto Ishrat's long pass to beat keeper Rakhsandha in the 64th minute. Higher Education Commission HEC inflicted 1-0 defeat over 2006 silver medallist Islamabad at Field No.2 near Hamidi Hall with spearhead Madiha Latif scoring the winner in the 19th minute.
