The full bench of the Apex Court has decided to acquit Nawaz Sharif from the convictions made against him in the plane conspiracy allegations. This will, of course, delight the whole nation, as the verdict is not just based on objectiveness but it also in the supreme national interests. The decision of SC was something that the whole nation expected from the present judicial system. However, some radical questions have remained unanswered. In the current political scenario, only two persons, Nawaz Sharif and Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry can be called the key players who can lead the country towards achieving some worthwhile goals. The basic question, though, is that if Nawaz Sharif is excluded from the plane hijacking conspiracy, then who will be held responsible for the nightmare of October 12, 1999 in which an elected government was dissolved through a military coup? As SC has cleared the Nawaz Sharif in that episode, it now has to identify and punish the perpetrators of the October 12 conspiracy. -IJAZ ALAM, via e-mail, July 17.
