Rawalpindi: The Livestock department personnel on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle dead meat weighing 37 maunds to Gujrawala and arrested two accused in the limits of Naseerabad police station.

According to livestock department sources, on a tip off the officials concerned stopped a vehicle which was carrying 1480 kilograms dead meat to Gujrawala and seized the meat.

Two suspected men were arrested, the dead meat was burnt after sprinkling chemical material.

Sale of dead meat has become a practice in Pakistan as butchers obtain dead animals and then sell them in market. It should be mentioning here that at least 20 maunds dead meat was seized in Hafizabad as well last month and  two butchers were arrested.
