Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has decided to abolish the Education District Officer (EDO) post to restore the old directorate system and establish the District Education Authorities (DEA) at the district level.

The old system was changed 14 years during the regime of former president Gen Pervez Musharraf.

An official said that after the restoration of the old system, Divisional Director of Schools (DDS) would be appointed as chairman of the DEA, which will be a complete autonomous body. It would have powers to transfer teachers, make recruitments, issue termination orders, conduct examinations etc...
