KARACHI : Counter Terrorism Department have encountered three suspected militants of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi during an alleged encounter in Manghopir locality of the city.

According to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police officials the encounter took place when the police was conducting a raid on a tip-off at a hideout of militants on the night between Saturday and Sunday at Khairabad, Manghopir, area. CTD officials said that they faced massive resistance during raid; however, after an exchange of fire, two were killed at the spot while another died on way to hospital. CTD officials also claim to have recovered three hand grenades, a Kalashnikov and three pistols from their possession. CTD in-charge Ali Raza said that so far the killed militants have yet to be identified, however, the militants killed belonged to the Hafiz Qasim Rasheed group of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Rasheed was the chief of LeJ for Sindh chapter and was arrested in 2012 by Crime Investigation Department (CID) while currently imprisoned in Central Jail, Karachi. Raza further claimed that the killed militants were involved in more than two dozen cases of sectarian based targeted killings.
