PESHAWAR - Unidentified gunmen shot dead Additional Assistant Commissioner Tank on Thursday as the assailants ambushed his vehicle.

According to police, Karamatullah Kundi was on his way to office from home in a car as he was targeted by the unidentified attackers at a traffic signal. The police added that injured Karamatullah Kundi was immediately taken to district headquarters hospital but he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

The incident occurred in broad daylight. Besides, a passer-by and driver of Kundi also sustained injuries in the gunfire. They were rushed to DHQ Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. Police said that soon after committing the crime, the attackers fled the scene.

Following the attack, police rushed to the spot and started search operation in the area to arrest the fleeing killers. However, no arrest was made till filing the report.


Three eunuchs were seriously injured as unidentified persons stabbed them with knives in the jurisdiction of Sirband Police Station on Thursday.

The police later claimed to have arrested six alleged assailants in the case.

The police said the eunuchs were on their way back from a function in Sirband area when unknown persons riding a car followed them and started attacking them with knives. Spogmai, Gurya and Arzoo while lodging the FIR told the police that the attackers also opened firing on their vehicle, however; they escaped bullets. The injured eunuchs were shifted to hospital for treatment.  The police said that six persons had been arrested and identified as Suleman, Tahir, Adnan, Mukaram, Jawad and Ahmad Ali.

It was not the first attack on transgender individuals as the community members have witnessed several violent attacks while some eunuchs have been killed and injured by unknown persons.

On March 27, a transgender person and a friend were killed in broad daylight on Ring Road as unknown motorcyclists opened firing at them while they were travelling in a rickshaw. During the last 3 years, 1,131 cases of violence against transgender persons were reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, out of which 55 eunuchs were killed.

As many as 42 transgender persons were killed by their intimate partners and 4 were killed in the name of honour by their families in Buner and Mardan.
