SWABI - Jamaat-i-Islami has said that it does not want to divide the votes of the religious parties as it would weaken their position on one hand and give strength to the anti-religious parties on the other.

These views were expressed by Jamaat-i-Islami leaders while addressing a convention here on Sunday. The event was attended by Provincial Amir Prof Muhammad Ibrahim, Shabir Ahmad Khan General Secretary and Naib Amirs, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Usman Khan and workers of the party.

The organisers said that the main objective of the convention was to motivate the workers and leaders; make their campaign more productive for the upcoming general elections and inspire the workers to educate the people about their party programmes and initiatives for the welfare of the masses.

On the occasion, Prof. Ibrahim said that their campaign for the upcoming elections has been underway quite successfully across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The public meetings we held across the province have been largely attended by people. In addition, many citizens, including distinguished figures frustrated by the leaders of their parties have joined them in a hope to work according to the wishes and demand of the people,” he said.

He alleged that the ruling party has used the Zakat fund for holding public meetings and the public sector employees have also been pressurized to participate in their public gatherings.

Shabir spoke about the JI plan to enter an electoral alliance with different political parties, especially those maintaining anti-American policy. He also spoke about the seat-to-seat adjustment with link-minded political forces and groups.

He claimed that the position of their party has been strengthened because they educated the people about the policies of the government and victimisation of Pukhtuns in KPK and tribal belt.

He criticised the ANP govt saying that those who had raised the cry of Pukhtuns have supported the American policy to butcher them and at present the entire Pukhtun regions are under fire. He said, why the ANP leaders remained silence is an open secret. Mushtaq unveiled a number of figures and tactics used by the ruling elites to indulge in corrupt practices, alleging that even the foreign media has reported on numerous occasions about the increasing corruption in the country, mainly in the KPK.  Usman said that the election scenario is being developed in the country and all the political parties have kicked off their campaigns to woo the voters.

He predicted that the ruling parties would face an ignominious defeat as they had imposed exorbitant prices, prolong loadshedding, bad law and order and unemployment. “The government also locked horns with judiciary for trivial issues,” he said. Saeed Zada, district amir of JI also spoke on the occasion.
