LAHORE  - The police have arrested the driver and helper of a tractor trailer that crashed into the boundary wall of a house in Shafiqabad on Sunday evening.

One-year-old Hassan and eight-year old Sher Ali died on-the-spot while another boy Fahad sustained severe injuries when the vehicle crashed into their home in Amin Park near Malipura.

A police spokesperson said on Monday that on the directions of DIG (operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, the police have arrested Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Mansha. He also added that both the accused had fled the crime scene after the deadly mishap.  Following the deaths of two children, dozens of relatives of the deceased and local people staged a protest demonstration by putting bodies on the Bund Road. The protest demonstration also caused worst traffic mess in the entire locality.

Later, heavy police contingents and officials of the city district government rushed to spot and managed to disperse the protesters after holding a series of negotiations. The police assured the protesters that the persons involved in the road mishap would be brought to justice.

Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif also took notice of the incident and ordered the police to arrest driver. The government also announced Rs500, 000 as compensation for the victim families. Earlier, the police registered an FIR against both the accused.

While taking notice of the incident, DIG Haider Ashraf ordered SP City to arrest both the accused persons. A police team headed by DSP and SHO Shafiqabad raided in different areas and arrested both the accused persons. Further investigation was underway.
