ISLAMABAD - Without getting Ogra’s notification, LPG marketing companies have raised the price of commodity to a record level thus left far behind all previous records of rubbing salt on the injuries of over burdened consumers in the country.

Following a record raise in per litre price of POL products, LPG marketing companies ostensibly viewing the rising pricing trend of the commodity in international market, have now jacked up the price to Rs 10 per kilogram for plain areas while a surge of Rs15 has been made so far are enough to add woes for the consumers of remote hilly areas thus added worries to further play.

After this self imposed artificial hike, LPG is now available at a sky rocketing price of Rs 175/kg. In plain areas, domestic cylinder of LPG is available at Rs120/175 while commercial cylinder is at Rs480/680.

It is also learnt that LPG marketing companies without getting Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s notification are busy in maximising their profits resultantly an extra profit of Rs200 in domestic cylinder and Rs800 in commercial cylinder is being collected from the hard pressed LPG consumers.

According to LPG Distribution Association Pakistan, LPG is now available at Rs175/kg thus giving a boost to the price of domestic cylinder from Rs1870 to Rs2050 in Gilgat Baltistan, FATA, Balakot, Muzaffarabad, Azad kasmir, Nathia Galli, Swat while after this massive surge domestic cylinder is available at Rs 1810 in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree and Attok. Similarly, domestic cylinder in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Kahn, Mandi Baha ud Din and Sakhar is available at Rs 1690 while Rs 1630 is the price of domestic cylinder in Faisalabad, Gujrat, Jehlum, Mirpur, Dera Ghazi Kahn and Bahwalpur while Rs 1570 is the price of domestic cylinder in Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Jhang, Sargodha and Bhera. Likwise, after this hike where Ogra’s permission was not granted in a bid to further press the vulnerable consumers, a domestic cylinder of LPG is rose to the tune of Rs1450 in Karachi.

Chairman LPG Distributors Association Pakistan Irfan Khokar declared recent hike as self-made by the LPG marketing companies. He further alleged that Ogra is enjoying the loot of helpless consumers at the hands of influential ‘gas mafia’. He urged the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take this matter of plundering and looting at the hands of influential ‘gas mafia’.
